Blue Light Therapy Explained

Are you looking for an effective skincare treatment that can help you achieve clear, radiant skin?

Blue Light Therapy is new skincare treatment that is taking the beauty world by storm! The therapy was originally developed for use in hospitals to treat skin conditions like psoriasis. However, recent studies have shown that blue light therapy can be just as effective at treating acne and skin issues. Blue light therapy can also be used to treat wrinkles and other signs of aging by stimulating collagen production.

The science behind blue light therapy is actually pretty simple. Acne-causing bacteria are sensitive to light in the blue-violet spectrum. When exposed to this type of light, the bacteria are killed. What this means for you is that blue light therapy can help to clear up your skin and give you the radiant complexion you've always wanted!

What to Expect

Most people associate blue light with screens - phones, laptops, TVs. While it's true that too much screen time can be detrimental to our skin health, there are actually some benefits to be had from this type of light exposure. One of those benefits is known as blue light therapy. If you're thinking about trying this treatment, there are a few things you should know about what to expect.

  • First, blue light therapy treatments are typically done in a series of sessions spaced out over several weeks. This is because it takes time for the bacteria to be killed off and for your skin to heal.
  • Second, you can expect your skin to be a little bit red and irritated after each treatment. This is normal and will go away after a few hours.
  • Finally, you may see some initial results after just one treatment, but for the best results, it's important to complete the entire series of treatments. Keep in mind that your exact results will depend on the severity of your acne or signs of aging.

Benefits Of Blue Light Therapy

01

Blue light therapy is a safe and non-invasive treatment option for many skin concerns, including acne, wrinkles, and sun damage. The treatment is FDA-approved and does not require any downtime or recovery period!

02

Collagen is a protein that helps to keep skin looking firm and youthful. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. Blue light therapy has been shown to boost collagen production that helps improve skin elasticity.

03

Sun damage is a common skin problem that can lead to premature aging. Blue light therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of sun damage, including wrinkles, dark spots, and discolouration.

04

In addition to its anti-aging benefits, blue light therapy is also effective in treating acne. The light kills the bacteria that cause breakouts, making it an excellent choice for those who suffer from frequent blemishes.

Answering All Your Questions

Sunset Aesthetics is excited to offer both Blue Light and Red Light Therapy as a part of our facial treatments. If you're interested in learning more about our blue light therapy treatments, here are three FAQs that may help:

  • How often should I get a blue light therapy facial?

For optimal results, it's recommended to get a blue light therapy facial once a week. However, some people may only need one facial every two weeks or so. Your esthetician will be able to advise you on how often you should come in for treatments based on your individual skin needs. For example, if you are getting blue light therapy for acne, consistent appointments will give you the best results!

  • How long do blue light therapy facials take?

Each facial treatment at Sunset Aesthetics includes about 15-20 minutes of blue or red light therapy session. This time limit is because the blue light can damage human cells if there is prolonged exposure. Additionally, blue light therapy can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so it is important to use sunscreen when going outside after a treatment!

  • Are there any side effects associated with blue light therapy?

Side effects from blue light therapy are very rare and typically mild if they do occur. Some people may experience temporary redness or dryness after treatment, but this should subside within a few hours.

If you have any questions or concerns about side effects, please be sure to speak with your esthetician prior to treatment. We hope this has helped to answer some of your questions about our new blue light therapy facials! If you're ready to book your appointment, please contact us today!
